The family business behind these San Diego County guides

Sell My Car SoCali is a family owned and operated business that buys cars in San Diego County and in southwest Riverside County, from Perris south to Temecula. Its owner is Christian John. The site also publishes free guides for people selling a car here, each built from the pages of the agency that sets the rule.

Where Christian John's business buys cars

The area is all of San Diego County first: the City of San Diego and the other 17 cities, from Oceanside down to Chula Vista, plus unincorporated places such as Ramona, Fallbrook and Julian. Second comes the southwest corner of Riverside County: Perris, Menifee, Canyon Lake, Lake Elsinore, Wildomar, Murrieta and Temecula. The areas served page sets out what changes for a seller in each part.

How a seller gets in touch

A car you want to sell can go into the request form on the sell page, which asks for its year, make and model, whether it runs and what the title shows. Once the request arrives, a person from the business calls you back. If you would rather talk first, phone (657) 699-0008; the call rings a person.

One selling question per guide

Every guide takes one question a seller in the county runs into, such as how to sign over a California title, whether the sale needs a smog certificate, or how to get a car out of an impound yard, and answers it from the agencies' own pages. Statewide rules come from the DMV, the Bureau of Automotive Repair and the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration; local ones come from San Diego County, its cities, SANDAG and, for Perris to Temecula, Riverside County and its cities. When a program belongs to one city and not its neighbors, the guide names that city.

How each guide is researched and re-checked

Each fee, deadline, form number and rule on a guide is taken from a page the agency publishes. Words set inside quotation marks are copied from that page, and before a guide is published a script fetches each source and confirms the quoted words are still on it. Agencies revise their fees and forms, so the sources get read again later on. Just below the opening paragraph, every guide prints the date its sources were last re-checked.

Not the DMV and not a government office

Sell My Car SoCali is a private business. It is not part of the California DMV or of any county, city or state office. Titles, plates, registration, government fees and the release of a towed car all stay with the agency each guide names, and the California DMV website is where most of those jobs begin.
